Holiday season is almost here which means gifts and new toys. Well meaning relatives love surprising the favorite little ones with the coolest toys to start off the New Year.
It is important that family members explain to others the guidelines when it comes to eye-safe toys. Injuries with unsafe toys may occur, sometimes resulting in blindness.
What can adults do to guard little kids from toy related injury?
Only buy gifts which are age and developmentally appropriate. Do not permit young children to play with toys and games meant for older children.
Teach children the safe way to play with toys. Before play, if possible carefully check new toys for sharp or pointed edges.
Try not to let small children play unsupervised.
Prevent eye injuries by discarding toys with sharp edges or catapult launchers.
Before giving in and buying that new toy or game that your child has been pleading with you for, spend a few moments to read up on eye safety precautions for toys. Anyone who has ever watched ''A Christmas Story'' should have learned that already. Happy Holidays to all.
