ABOUT OUR EYE EXAMINATIONS

While our eye exams are tailored to your individual needs,
they all include four basic components.

• Ocular Health - The health of your eyes is our primary concern.  We check from the retina & optic nerve in the back of the eye to the lens & cornea in the front.  We perform tests for glaucoma and cataracts.  With state of the art equipment such as the ophthalmoscope, binocular indirect, retinal photography neurovisual field we examine the retina & optic nerve.  The biomicroscope for the center vitrious gel, anterior chamber, cornea, pupil, conjunctiva, lids and outflow channels.  The biomicroscope is used for the lens of the eye to examine for cataracts.  The computerized tonometer for eye pressure along with optic nerve and outflow channel evaluation as well as visual fields study, if necessary, are tests we use for glaucoma.  We treat and manage all eye disease.  If surgical or specialized medical care is necessary we work with various ophthalmologists that specialize in different areas.  That way you can be assured of the finest medical treatment.

• Systemic Health - While checking your ocular health we are also looking for manifestations of general body disease.  Diseases such as diabetes and other vascular disorders such as high blood pressure and atherial sclerosis, blood dycrasias such as sickle cell anemia, auto immune disorders such as sarcoidosis and neurological diseases such as brain tumors and multiple sclerosis can sometimes affect the eye and be diagnosed through a thorough eye exam.  Our doctors are trained and have the equipment to allow us to diagnose systemic disease when it is present within the eyes.
• Vision - Our thorough eye examination has been developed to give you the most accurate and comfortable glasses and contact lens prescription. The auto refractor computer and vision phoropters, along with your medical history, symptoms and the experience of our staff are just some of the many elements that assist our doctors in establishing your accurate prescription.
• Visual Performance - We test visual skills ability and give advice on how to achieve your best visual performance.  Visual performance skills can affect working with computers, reading comfort & comprehension, all sports activities, driving and more.
