At Fox Eye Care, we believe clear, comfortable vision is a big part of a child’s confidence, learning, and everyday life. Kids rely on their eyes for everything from reading and homework to sports, screens, and time with friends. When their vision isn’t working the way it should, it can affect focus, energy, and even how they feel about school and activities they enjoy.
Our goal is to make sure your child’s vision is supporting their growth, success, and overall well-being.
We recommend that children receive regular vision screenings during early childhood through their pediatrician or a pediatric eye care specialist. These screenings are important for catching concerns while the eyes and visual system are still developing.
At Fox Eye Care, we begin seeing children for comprehensive eye exams at age 7 and older. By this stage, children are more engaged in reading, learning, and visual tasks that benefit from a detailed eye exam. We focus on making the experience comfortable, encouraging, and tailored to each child’s needs so they feel at ease throughout the visit.
If your child is younger than 7, we’re happy to help connect you with trusted pediatric specialists in the area who focus on early childhood care.
Vision concerns aren’t always obvious. Some common signs include:
Squinting or sitting very close to books, screens, or the TV
Complaints of blurry vision, headaches, or tired eyes
Losing their place when reading
Difficulty concentrating on schoolwork
Avoiding reading or other close-up activities
Tilting or turning their head to see more clearly
Eye strain after school or sports
If you notice any of these, an eye exam can help determine whether vision is playing a role.
At Fox Eye Care, digital retinal imaging is a routine part of how we care for our patients, including children. This technology allows us to take detailed images of the inside of the eye, including the retina and optic nerve, often without dilation.
These images give our doctors an early baseline of your child’s eye health. As they grow, we can compare future images to monitor for even subtle changes.
This helps us detect potential concerns earlier and provide the highest level of care. Many families also appreciate that imaging can make the visit quicker and more comfortable.
Because this information is so valuable, we perform retinal imaging on nearly all of our patients as part of a comprehensive exam. While many insurance plans do not cover this service, we offer a reduced out-of-pocket rate to help make it accessible. Our team is always happy to answer questions and help you understand your coverage.
We love partnering with families to support children as they grow. Whether your child needs glasses, contact lenses, or simply reassurance that their eyes are healthy, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
If you have questions or would like to schedule an exam for your school-aged child, our team would be happy to help.
